Getting Access
GWDG Account and HPC Project
You need two things before connecting:
- A GWDG account (available to all Uni Göttingen members)
- Membership in our group's HPC project — email Sebastian Hanß to be added.
You will receive a separate HPC username (e.g.
u12345) used for all HPC work.
SSH Key
Generate an SSH key pair on your local machine:
ssh-keygen -t ed25519 -f ~/.ssh/id_ed25519
Log into your GWDG account settings, go to Security → Add SSh public keys, and paste
the contents of ~/.ssh/id_ed25519.pub there.
SSH Config
Add the following to ~/.ssh/config, replacing u12345 with your HPC username:
Host Emmy-p3
Hostname glogin-p3.hpc.gwdg.de
User u12345
IdentityFile ~/.ssh/id_ed25519
You can then connect with:
ssh Emmy-p3
Emmy-p3 is reachable from outside the university network without VPN.

Open Questions
- Does GWDG account activation require a separate email to hpc-support@gwdg.de, or is adding someone to the project via the portal sufficient?
- Should the SSH key also be registered separately in the HPC project portal, or does the GWDG account registration cover it?
